AC Refrigerant Leak Service with Stanley Ford Eastland

When temperatures and humidity soar, you’ll want your vehicle’s cabin temperature to fall, so it is important to keep your air conditioner functioning at its best for your comfort and safety. If you live in or around Stephenville, Weatherford, or Cisco, you can get quality professional service with Stanley Ford Eastland. If the heat is getting to you in your vehicle because of a malfunction in your air conditioner, it could mean that you have a refrigerant leak in your climate control system that is preventing it from doing its job.

What is an A/C Leak?

Your vehicle’s A/C is a system that is designed to cool the air and remove humidity from your vehicle’s cabin. Several components must work in concert with each other to regulate the climate for you and your passengers when the mercury rises. The A/C system is composed of an evaporator, a compressor, and a condenser as well as some other minor parts. All are necessary for your system to operate correctly.
To cool your cabin and regulate humidity, a colorless (mostly odorless) chemical refrigerant circulates through your AC. As this refrigerant flows through the AC system, it goes through gaseous and liquid states which allows it to draw heat from the evaporator that is found in the cabin and then it pushes out of the condenser that is found beneath the hood. A fan cools the air through the evaporator and the cooler air enters the cabin through the vents in your climate control system.
This process or cycle continues if your AC system is maintained. Anywhere throughout this cooling cycle, your refrigerant can leak out through cracks, crevices, or broken seals that may develop if your climate control system is not properly maintained. These weak points along the cycle may go unnoticed for a while unless you detect the symptoms that indicate the issues that stem from a leak in the system.

How Will I Know If I Have an AC Leak?

Some ways that can identify leaks are as follows:
  • Dashboard Alerts: Some vehicles have a dedicated alert system engineered into the myriad of sensors that are found in newer vehicles. It may show up as a check engine light. For others, a dash light warning may not be triggered at all. If this alert light’s meaning isn’t obvious, you may need to consult the section in your owner’s manual on warning lights and indicators.
  • Odd clicking sounds when running your AC: If you hear a clicking sound when you run your AC, it could mean that your compressor is short-cycling. The clicking sound is often compared to a loud switch turning on and off continually. Short cycling can be caused by several things, including but not limited to refrigerant leaks.
  • AC pushing out warm air: If you have your temperature set at its lowest level, yet the air coming out is warm, this can mean a refrigerant leak.
These signs may not always mean a leak. Other problems can lead to these symptoms, so it is best to have your AC problems checked out by our expert technicians at Stanley Ford Eastland.
