Who the Updates are For

If you own a vehicle with SYNC 4 multimedia or higher, you can receive updates over the air. These updates are designed to improve your vehicle’s features for now and in the future. Updating is easy, especially if you set up automatic updates. These updates are installed as soon as they become available.
You can also schedule a time to have updates downloaded. You may want to update overnight or at a more convenient time. When you set up the time for the updates, they won’t disrupt your day. After your update has been completed, you can see details of any changes that were made.

How to Set the Updates

If your vehicle has SYNC 4A or SYNC 4 already installed, Automatic Updates is enabled. You can turn it on by toggling it to the ON position. To set a time for the update, you can go to Settings and select System Updates. When you choose Schedule Updates, it will allow you to set a preferred day and time. When you save your choice, it will allow updates at that time whenever they are available.
If the update requires internet access, you may need to connect to a local Wi-Fi network. You’ll need to pair your vehicle with the network and know the password to connect. The vehicle must be running for these updates.
You can find out more about software updates if you have the FordPass app. Once you add your VIN to the account, you’ll learn about any pending updates. You can also visit the Ford owner site or see the updates on your dashboard. You’ll also get notifications before the update takes place. Once the update has started, you can’t cancel it.

What to Expect with Software Updates

If you don’t know what kind of changes are included with the software updates, you may not realize their importance. Some updates provide improvements to the sound system, power mirrors, and power liftgate. They may make improvements to the trailer profile, battery performance, power seats, and other power components.
