Spark Plug Service & Replacement at Stanley Ford Eastland

Internal combustion engines by nature, as the name implies, mean that to ignite the engine you need the proper components to kick the engine on. This is the nature of the ignition system in your car, truck, SUV, or minivan. A key to that ignition is your spark plugs, which are important to get your vehicle started and keep it running.
When you are driving from home to work, to the gym, to the store, or wherever you need to go, it’s easy to take engine components for granted. Your spark plugs start your vehicle up and keep it running smoothly, but they wear out over time. The good news is you have premier service technicians near you in Cisco, Ranger, and Eastland to help keep your car running and your spark plugs firing. At Stanley Ford Eastland, we know how important of an investment your vehicles are and we want to help you get the most out of your investment in our service department.

What Are Spark Plugs?

Spark plugs are the spark of life your engine needs. Their function primarily is to ignite the gasoline and air inside your engine. They do this by using high-voltage electricity from your engine coil to create a spark that will mix fuel economy, power, and engine emissions to burn the gas so your car can move. Like anything else, they cease to function in time and that’s when they need to be replaced.

How Often Is Spark Plug Replacement Necessary?

Like your brakes, your tires, your oil, and other automotive systems, the spark plugs need to be switched out from time to time. Your vehicle owner’s manual provides you with the information you need to keep those systems maintained as recommended by the manufacturer. Depending on the make and model, the differences in mileage can be very different, but you will likely see 30k, 60k, or 100k recommended for your vehicle. Sometimes the spark plugs stop working early and we suggest getting them replaced quickly, otherwise you may have problems that occur like these that follow.
  • The fuel economy is hindered.
  • Check engine light turns on and off when you accelerate, or the engine misfires, and can be damaged.
  • Your check engine light diagnostic shows a misfire code.
  • Your car won’t start,
  • You fail your emissions test.
  • The vehicle’s idle is rough or there are engine vibrations or “missing” can occur.
Your engine’s size also determines the number of spark plugs you have. A 4-cylinder will have four spark plugs, a 6-cylinder will have six, and an 8-cylinder will have eight. If one spark plug goes bad your best bet is to replace them all, otherwise, you may have to make multiple trips back to Stanley Ford Eastland and we want to save you money.

What Does the Technician do?

Your technician will remove the spark plugs from the cylinder head where they start your engine. Then the plugs will be inspected to see if there are any tell-tale signs of other engine troubles. New plugs will be installed, and your vehicle will get a test drive to ensure the engine is functioning at peak levels.
